Managua Storm Water Modeling
Client: IDB/ALMA (Subcontracted by the University of Maryland)
About: Lago staff were included in the team to produce a new Stormwater Master Plan for the City of Managua, Nicaragua.
Lago developed several EPA-SWMM5 and RiverFlow2D models covering the different watersheds in the City of Managua, Nicaragua. The existing conditions models were then modified to evaluate proposed flood improvements project in the watersheds and in the drainage network. A training course on the model software, approach used and project model files were provided.
Composite flooding maps for different return periods as well as the corresponding hazard level map were produced for the entire city of Managua from the 2D model results. The composite maps were produced for the existing conditions, but also for future conditions that include flood improvement projects.
