ABC Flaghole Wetland Reserve Program Modeling Review
Client: USDA, NRCS (sub-consultant to The Trust for Tomorrow)
Year: 2021-2022 About: The Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS-Gainesville) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requested an expert review of the ABC Flaghole Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) Model, developed by CDM Smith Inc. back in 2014. The model, which was developed utilizing SWMM5, HSPF, and SPAW, supported the design of the wetland restoration plan of the 4,260-acre ABC Flaghole WRP easement. The objective of the review was to verify that the original WRP model of the ABC Flaghole easement was correctly designed to accurately represent the hydrologic-hydraulic and wetland characteristics of the area. |
Specifics: Lago conducted a thorough review of the computer model input and output files. The review determined if the modeling approach, setup, assumptions, and parameterization were defensible from a scientific analysis and engineering implementation perspective. In addition, a site visit was conducted with the NRCS staff and the landowners to observe the water control structures and restoration features outlined in the plans and the model. Recommendations for improvements to the modeling effort and to the design of restoration features were also provided. |
