Watershed Management Plan
Client: Collier County (sub-consultant to ATKINS)
Year: 2015 - 2016 About: Collier County was seeking RESTORE funding to implement a project that will provide multiple water resource benefits within the County. The project is designed to divert water from the Naples Bay watershed and to rehydrate wetlands in the Picayune Strand State Forest. This would reduce wet season flows to Naples Bay and improve the timing and volume of flows to Rookery Bay. LAGO provided modeling services to support design and evaluate potential project benefits and participated in Public Involvement activities. |

Specifics:
LAGO applied an existing integrated surface water/ groundwater model to test design alternatives and evaluate hydrologic changes within the state forest. Model results were also used to evaluate the expected change in flow patterns to the Naples Bay and Rookery Bay Estuaries. LAGO also served as a lead participant in the many stakeholder meeting needed to gain support from other governmental, regulatory, and environmental organizations. |

Outcome:
The project team developed a set of preliminary (15%) design drawings that meet project objectives. In addition, the team worked with Collier County to earn letters supporting the project from the South Florida Water Management District, Rookery Bay National Estuary Research Reserve, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Florida Forestry Division, Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Audubon Society, and the City of Naples. The County plans to submit the plans and supporting documentation to the Gulf Coast Restoration Council for review and funding approval. |
