Hurricane Harvey Flood Inundation Study

Hurricane Harvey produced extensive flooding upstream of the Addicks and Baker Reservoirs near Houston, Texas. Initial tasks focused on using HEC-RAS models and GIS tools to map the extent of flooding based on the measured peak water surface in each reservoir. Follow tasks included a spreadsheet analysis to evaluate the effect of operations of the outlet gates and to develop a 2-D model of the study area using the RiverFlow2D software

LAGO developed a 1D model of the study area using HEC-RAS and used model results to estimate the extent of flooding at peak stage upstream of the reservoirs. LAGO also completed a detailed spreadsheet analysis to considered gate operations and the timing and duration of measured stages in the reservoir. Finally, LAGO developed a 2-D model using RiverFlow2D to estimate the timing and duration of flooding during the storm.
LAGO provided the results from this modeling study to the client that is using them to support the claims from affected property owners.
