C-43 Reservoir: MODFLOW Modeling
Client: South Florida Water Management District (sub-consultant to Carollo Engineers)

This project task was focus on providing support to the geotechnical studies conducted for the C-43 Reservoir design. The idea was to develop 7 local MODFLOW models at different sections of the reservoir berm. The resulting steady-state heads from the 3-dimensional groundwater model are provided to the geotechnical experts at Terracon to evaluate slope stability of the canals, uplift pressures beneath structures, etc.

Layer Thickness = 2 to 10 ft, from top to bottom
Geological Model: top and bottom elevation map from kriging interpolation of boring well data
Lateral boundary conditions from heads extracted from regional MIKE SHE model
Bentonite wall in berm, relief trenches, and sheet piling were considered
Software script developed to process the data into GWV input files
MODFLOW heads are extracted at specific points of interest by using proprietary software tools.
The results of the 3D groundwater modeling were used as input of the geotechnical analysis.
